There are several topics making the rounds in the blogosphere. The OTO is "promulgating" this or "promulgating" that. All the while, the Crowley works, including the Thoth deck, become more and more rare. While I do appreciate the rising value of my book collection, it seems to be a rather heavily conflicted approach. Is verbally espousing "same-sex marriage" the same as agitating for it? While barely passing as political activism, how can we posit it as a valid manifestation of Thelema? Relevent to all this is John Crow's post regarding The Shallow Engagement in the Occult and the Esoteric.

Also amusing is the Facebook application Causes. It shows that with 1,531 members, only $322 has been donated to the Thelema cause.

My friend plutherus is excited because the archeological dig he assisted with (something about playing with poo in a dark cave or some such) is written up on the Nature magazine website. "Archaeologists claim to have found the oldest known artefact in the Americas, a scraper-like tool in an Oregon cave that dates back 14,230 years." Sadly the whole article requires payment, but I believe he subscribed to the magazine, so I should be able to read the whole thing soon.

I've always wondered just what kind of marvels Japan would provide for us if they didn't have to rebuild Tokyo all the time due to monster attacks. First, the Space Elevator, now they have stepped on toward the second stage for placing a geosynchronous solar paneled satellite above Japan to provide power for their country.

Larry Elkin discusses his childhood, how he called Soupy Sales while home alone at 8 & how he rode the subway to the Indian Consulate (for a report about India) alone at 10. We aren't even permitted to do these things anymore.

Exciting Afternoon

First let me clarify that my children were merely bystanders. There was no evidence linking them to the fire.

My children's elementary and middle school caught on fire. The children were counted and taken to the nearby library. From there they called me and explained that the children could not walk home (it was still within 10 or so blocks of my house) and that I would need to pick them up. I called my ex, hoping she could pick them up, but no, her car is broken.

When I arrived, the front of the library was cordoned off with four visible police officers. It was explained that I needed to write down my children's names and the police would carry the note to whomever was inside & they would get the children. It was kind of a hassle. I am hoping that it was just to keep the camera crews away from the children & not out of some ridiculous fear of kidnapping.

Anyway, the Oregonian has an article on the fire already, and the news clips are from the local KATU station's website.

This one has some close-ups of the fire with a voice over from a phone interview with one of the fifth grade students.

I often post about the abuses of the sex offenders list, for a change of pace I present the case of Sarah Kruzan. She killed her pimp who'd raped her and put her out as a prostitute at the age of 13. She was 16 and got life -- for killing a pimp. It's not like she was a brutal rapist or a clear and present danger to society. Hell, she did society a favor.

Barbarossa Umtrunck and Kazeria [KZ] have released a split album called '72 Candles in Cairo 1904.' As you might guess, it is dedicated to Liber AL. Barbarossa Umtruck normally delivers an enjoyable Martial Industrial / Militant Neofolk type sound. The works on this album introduce a ritual ambient element and makes liberal use of the vocals on "The Great Beast Speaks" album. The Kazeria [KZ] tracks start off with the moody title track. I am reminded of the works On Coil's 'Musick To Play In The Dark.' Calm, brooding pieces with minor interjections of discordance -- they are difficult to make out, but I believe that they are also Crowley samples. The ending sample on 'Black Stars of Thelema' is great, some British accented woman saying that Crowley was what you would call today a psychopath (due to his lack of morals). The final Kazeria track is more upbeat, rather EBM-like.

I have not watched the DVD yet.

I've been really enjoying Wakashima Kanon (分島花音). Imagine a ethereal goth style with a cello and you are in the ballpark for her sound. Evidently, she works with Mana (Malice Mizer, Moi dix Mois) who has a more Death Rock/Metal edge. When I saw this ending for Vampire Knight, I had to find the artist.

Kotodama (言霊): Soul of Language

Kotodama or kototama (言霊, lit. "word spirit/soul") refers to the Japanese belief that mystical powers dwell in words and names. English translations include "soul of language", "spirit of language", "power of language", "power word", "magic word", and "sacred sound". The notion of kotodama presupposes that sounds can magically affect objects, and that ritual word usages can influence our environment, body, mind, and soul.

This Japanese compound kotodama combines koto 言 "word; speech" and tama 霊 "spirit; soul" (or 魂 "soul; spirit; ghost") voiced as dama in rendaku. In contrast, the unvoiced kototama pronunciation especially refers to kototamagaku (言霊学, "study of kotodama"), which was popularized by Onisaburo Deguchi in the Oomoto religion. This field takes the Japanese gojūon phonology as the mystical basis of words and meanings, in rough analogy to Hebrew Kabbalah.

The etymology of kotodama is uncertain, but one explanation correlating words and events links two Japanese words pronounced koto: this 言 "word; words; speech" and 事 "situation; circumstances; state of affairs; occurrence; event; incident". Note that these two kanji were used interchangeably in the name Kotoshironushi 事代主 or 言代主, an oracular kami mentioned in the Kojiki and Nihon shoki. Kotodama is related with Japanese words such as kotoage 言挙 "words raised up; invoke the magical power of words", kotomuke 言向 "directed words; cause submission though the power of words", and jumon 呪文 "magic spell; magic words; incantation".

Kotodama is a central concept in Japanese mythology, Shinto, and Kokugaku. For example, the Kojiki describes an ukei (or seiyaku) 誓約 "covenant; trial by pledge" between the sibling gods Susanoo and Amaterasu, "Let each of us swear, and produce children". Uttering the divine words of an ukehi supposedly determines results, and in this case, Amaterasu giving birth to five male deities proved that Susanoo's intentions were pure.

Kototama or kotodama is also fundamental to Japanese martial arts, for instance, in the use of kiai. Morihei Ueshiba, the founder of aikido, used kototama as a spiritual basis for his teachings. William Gleason says Ueshiba "created aikido based on the kototama principle," and quotes him that "Aikido is the superlative way to practice the kototama. It is the means by which one realizes his true nature as a god and finds ultimate freedom." Mutsuro Nakazono, a disciple of Ueshiba, wrote books on the importance of kototama in aikido.

While other cultures have animistic parallels to kotodama, such as mantra, mana, and logos, some Japanese people believe the "word spirit" is unique to the Japanese language. One of the classical names of Japan is kotodama no sagiwau kuni (言霊の幸う国, "the land where the mysterious workings of language bring bliss"), a phrase that originated in the Man'yōshū.

The major issues cut out were (1) the U.S. role in aiding Israel, (2) the lack of adequate coverage in mainstream U.S. media, and (3) the Palestinian-led movement for Boycott / Divestment / Sanctions (BDS) to nonviolently pressure Israel to comply with international law.

It's worth watching and comparing with what they allowed said in the TV version.

TriORE "Three Hours" (Triarii & Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio project)

I received my copy of the joint project between Triarii and Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio. It is an excellent album, however it seems to be dominated more by the Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio than Triarii. My guess is that Tomas Pettersson wrote the lyrics which in turn forced the music into a style very similar to an Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio album. Perhaps it is a little more bombastic, but I was hoping for a stronger Triarii presence. You should still buy a copy as it is well worth the price, but I am still a little disappointed.

Is it wrong to find them amusing when they refer to Spock positively while explaining how detrimental Jews are?

Quite naturally, White Nationalists want to cut loose that "huge anchor" pulling America in an anti-racist direction, eject the people who are "urinating" in our discursive pool, and cast off the "70 lb. backpack" holding down our movement. As Spock would say, it is only logical. I emphasize: this is not to say the Jews should be rounded up in concentration camps and exterminated. Rather, we believe they should seek refuge elsewhere, maybe in Israel where they already have a state of their own.

We see quotes like this all the time. Seldom is it meant as a counter to permitting immigration (whether illegal or just the super high counts we permit). It's as if the people speaking them are unaware of history -- or perhaps it is the arrogance of your typical American. For some reason they think that we won't go the way of the Native American if we allow ourselves to be culturally displaced. It's as if the (mostly) liberals think that what occurred to the natives wasn't all that bad or that it was ultimately beneficial. We then consistently violated our treaties whenever convenient. Now we are told that we should permit unrestricted immigration because we were immigrants? Computers and Art: Professor Cope wrote a program called EMI which analyzed a composers work and then would create a new composition in the style of that composer. (MP3's here). While several musicians were interested in performing these works, the controversy of a machine (possibly) imitating a great master caused their agents to protest & thus we only have computer generated musical instruments playing computer generated musical scores. I fondly remember "The Parking Lot is Full," a web comic dealing with angst, perversion, sex and the like. It ran from 1993 to 2002. I often refer to two of the strips. This is one of them. There is now an archive containing most of the entire run.

Speaking of comics, I just found "Cat and Girl" and I am reading through the archives. I found this one particularly funny as it occurred 6 days after the attack on the World Trade Center in NY. The one after it pretty much summed up my opinion in September of 2001.

It is necessary to distinguish between nationality and nationalism. The Middle Ages knew nationalities but not nationalisms. Nationality is a natural factor that encompasses a certain group of common elementary characteristics that are retained both in the hierarchical differentiation and in the hierarchical participation, which they do not oppose. Therefore, during the Middle Ages, castes, social bodies, and orders were articulated within various nationalities, and while the types of the warrior, noble, merchant, and artisan conformed to the characteristics of this or of that nation, these articulations represented at the same time wider, international units. Hence, the possibility for the members of the same caste who came from different nations to understand each other better than the members of different castes within the same nation.

Modem nationalism represents, with regard to this, a movement in the opposite direction. Modem nationalism is not based on a natural unity, but on an artificial and centralizing one. I started re-reading Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou, a fabulous manga dealing with the twilight of humanity from the perspective of the gentle robot 'Alpha.' Near the end of Chapter One, they have her playing the Gekkin which is the Japanese name for the Chinese instrument known as the Yueqin. After reading about it, I decided I wanted to hear what it sounded like. YouTube is our friend. I found this video from the 2008.6.12 Liu Nguyen Plucked Festival. It features (according to the Google translator) the Chinese Plucked String Orchestra performing a piece I believe is called "Idea of a Non-Shaped Model."

I can't help but equate the polarities of Strassers "law of triune polarity" with the downward spiral of the Kali Yuga. I also see the shift exemplified in American politics where we vacillate between a liberal phase & a conservative one, with a corresponding submergence of the self in mindless indulgence (liberal phase) and nationalistic fervor (conservative phase). I am unsure if Gottfried's label of Neoconservative for Strasser in the article (1969) is used in the same context of today's neoconservatives.

While reading through some old news articles, I came across one about Iman Hams, a 13 year old girl butchered by the IDF while going to school. After she fell, the officer in charge fired two more bullets into her brain & then unloaded his clip into her body. Pretty disgusting. I checked on Wikipedia and found that the officer had been acquitted. This led to some data on the butchery of Palestinian children by Israeli's.

Since the outbreak of the Al-Aqsa Intifada in September 2000 - which marked the beginning of the most recent upsurge in violence in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict - at least 954 Palestinian and 123 Israeli children under the age of 18 have been killed, according to B'Tselem, an Israeli human rights monitoring group.

The first recorded incident when Palestinian children were targeted by IDF was on 2 November 1950 when three Palestinian children were shot, two fatally by IDF troops near Dayr Ayyub in the Latrun salient. Ali Muhammad Ali Alyyan (12) his sister Fakhriyeh Muhammad Ali Alyyan (10) and their cousin Khadijeh Abd al Fattah Muhammad Ali (8) all from Yalo village, "The two children [Ali and Fakhriyeh] were stood in a wadi bed and the soldiers opened fire at them. According to both [adult] witnesses only one man fired at them with a sten-gun but none of the detachment attempted to interfere". On 25 February 1953 5 Arab shepherds were executed and then their bodies mutilated at al-Burj, 1 was aged 13. During the Beit Jala raid when one demolition charge failed the house was broken into and the occupants (a mother and 4 children, ranging in age from 6 to 14) were then sprayed with machine gun fire and grenades tossed in.

And we seriously expect the Palestinians to make peace with these butchers?
